Spectraserv’s Construction Group is in the final stages of completing a $15,500,000 upgrade to the Village of Ridgewood Water Pollution Control Facility in New Jersey. The upgrade is to ensure the facility meets new State standards for treatment of sewage.

The upgrade included rehabilitation of the headworks of the plant, namely:

  • Installation of new bar screens, grit collectors, and influent gates
  • Replacement of two primary clarifiers
  • Reconstruction of the low lift wet well and blending chamber
  • Rehabilitation of the aeration tanks and associated Process Control Building, including
  • Concrete modifications
  • New diffusers
  • New blowers and piping
  • Secondary Clarifier mechanisms were also replaced and an additional 75-foot diameter Secondary Clarifier was constructed and added to the system.
  • Chlorination system was upgraded and the outfall headwall was reconstructed.
  • Sludge Handling Facilities were totally rehabilitated. This included installing new digesters covers, mixing system, thickening system, boilers, and chemical feed equipment.

During the entire rehabilitation process the plant had to remain in service and continue to treat sewage without violating their State permits. This was accomplished by the construction and use of Temporary Facilities, Bypass Pumping, and Sludge Hauling.  To complete a task of this size, Spectraserv enlisted the help of several subcontractors to completely overhaul the Electrical System of the plant, upgrade the HVAC equipment, complete architectural renovations, and perform Sitework.

Project is on schedule to be completed September 2004.
